‘The Delicate Arch’, Utah
by Photographer Debbi Nelson

There is nothing delicate about the hike to the Delicate Arch in Arches National Park in Moab, Utah. It is a long walk in hot sun over craggy rocks and a near vertical hill made of rock. Before giving it a go, I asked the lady in the gift shop if it was worth seeing. “Oh, yes it IS something to see! But you’ll want to make sure you have some water with you on the way up there.” Yes, water and some medics with heart paddles. The truth is, having survived the climb, the spectacular beauty that was before me as the sun set on one of the most recognized icons of Utah far surpasses any memories of discomfort that I may have experienced. It was worth every minute. When you look at people standing under it, you realize just how massive this majestic, wind-carved arch really is.
